Multicultural education is a serious issue in all European countries (and, of course, not only in Europe). The attitudes of European states towards coexistence with minorities differs according to their specific historical development, particularly in recent decades and with the massive waves of migration since the 1960s. As the states and regions of Europe integrate they are discovering that besides national differences there are a number of common issues best dealt with co-operatively.
