This paper describes cross-cultural rearing-processes where the parents derive from two different cultural traditions. Young adults between 17 ? 30 years, who grew up in Italy or in Sweden, with a Swedish mother and an Italian father, have been interviewed about their childhood. The way they grow up, opinions about their childhood and how they looked upon the fact to have one parent deriving from another culture (than that where the rearing took place), with a different way of looking upon rearing and education, where the main issues discussed. The intention was not to compare the Italian and the Swedish ways of rearing, but it appeared to be impossible for the informants to describe their upbringing without at the same time describing what they considered to be characteristic of Italian and Swedish rearing.
