Civic education has repeatedly drawn the attention of educators around the world and its issues have been studied by many important international organisations. In 1971 International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) took its first look at civic education in the context of so-called Six-Subject Study and in 1990-ties a new and comprehensive civic education study was carried out in 28 countries (Tina, 2001). This paper analysis shortly main findings of the recent IEA survey and draws some conclusions for the development of civic education curricula in European context.
