Comments: The COMENIUS Chapter has been a great success in the SOCRATES programme and will be even more important in SOCRATES II. EXPERTISE 5x5 is a COMENIUS Action 3 three-year Project (E.I.T.P.). Its aim has been to enhance European In-service Training through the development of a Course, course materials and school-based work in five themes in 25 schools, in five countries; one country has led on each theme. The themes - and countries - are: Autonomous Learning - U.K.; Special Needs - Netherlands; Language and Communication - Germany; New Technologies - Finland; Interculturalism - Portugal. Delivery of these outcomes has taken place in three main ways: firstly, through a COMENIUS course for 30 European teachers in Birmingham in May 1998; secondly, through ongoing work in 25 schools; thirdly, through dissemination. This project shares many fundamental aims regarding children?s identity and European citizenship with the CiCe project.
