Abstract This paper presents the results of research developed in Czech Republic and Spain about the concept of Europe. We gave students from primary, secondary and university levels the task of comparing different countries in Europe, using a simple statistical procedure to check their ideas about which countries represent 'the ideal' European concept. Our results showed that students have a hard 'attitudinal bias' between countries, and this bias was higher in more experiences students than in novice and younger students. We did not find cultural differences between Czech students and Spanish students: respondents in both countries put states such as Germany in the higher levels of Europeanness, and Turkey in the lower levels
