This paper develops Merryfield’s views on global citizenship education through the analysis of stories to develop basic forms for multicultural education, global education and the teaching of history in primary schools, taking narratives of people from different places to show the evolution and blending of cultures. It is easier when the focus is on everyday life and not on political history. The paper demonstrates examples of the technique.. This is a strategy for kindergarten teachers and especially for initial and in-service courses for primary teachers. The potential of stories is very well demonstrated, but it is not easy to find many good stories to develop time and space concepts, and even more difficult to find stories that touch on global issues.
