Creating a sense of responsibility is a challenge to parents and educators. One method of teaching children responsibility is to make them responsibility for their actions. Many parents treat pocket money as a tool to teaching children responsibility. We investigate whether this develop self-responsibility and social sensitivity. We examined three groups who had/did not have regular pocket money. Children without regular access to money show most responsibility. They are more resourceful, try to earn money, the least claim-oriented, and more willing to share money with others. Those with pocket money are not likely to buy prohibited products and save most. Parents exercise a great influence for developing responsibility in their children through showing an interest in their children and knowing what they think.
