This is part of the Hungarian-Slovenian-UK study of teachers’ views of competition and cooperation. Our research is based on classroom observations, focus-group interviews with students and in-depth interviews with teachers: we studied the role cooperation and competition play in the school context in three countries: Hungary, Slovenia and the UK. From previous research we can expect culturally different manifestations of these phenomena in the three countries. Cross-cultural research on cooperation and competition has never been done in an educational setting based on classroom observations, interviews with teachers and focus-group interviews with pupils. From previous studies we can expect that besides similarities we will find culturally ingrained differences among the three countries in comparison.
